DAILY ITINERARY FOR
Wine Walking Tour

This wine tasting tour starts with visiting vintners in Vienna itself ( Vienna is the only European capitall with vinyards in the city limits). Then by public transportation to the province Burgenland east of Vienna; after that travel to the Wachau (Danube valley) northwest of Vienna.

NOTE: The tour can also be taken in segments of the above: Vienna and Burgenland or Vienna and Wachau. (more details in the pricing info). The length of the daily hikes through the vineyards and villages are about 8 miles. All hikes are accompanied by an experienced guide.

Day 1


Arrive in Vienna and check into your hotel.

To get your walking legs working, a short walking tour through the Inner City, ending with an early dinner at Vienna’s oldest restaurant “GRIECHENBEISL”

Day 2

Starting from your hotel with public transportation the goal is the Nussberg, a well-known wine area in Vienna. After several stops at various vintners the day ends at a well-known wine-tavern with more tasting and dinner and Viennese music.

After breakfast travel by bus to Eisenstadt, Burgenland, and check into hotel; meet with local guide and start hiking to “wine city” Rust, lunch on own, winetasting at Weinakademie in Rust; return to Eisenstadt by public transportation.

Day 4

Visit of Esterhazy Palace

After lunch start with hiking tour to Donnerskirchen with guide, distance approx 11 km, hiking time 3 hours; winetasting dinner at the famous LEISSERHOF in Donnerskirchen; return by train to Eisenstadt.

Day 5

Return to Vienna by bus; then travel by train to Krems in the Wachau; transfer to hotel. After check in hike to Dürnstein with guide; stop for a wine tasting at the vinery of the Freien Weingärtner. Afterwards hike on to the town Dürnstein - visit castle and baroque church; lunch on own at a local wine tavern. Return to Krems by steam ship on the Danube. Dinner at MOERWALD’S Restaurant “KLOSTER UND”.

Day 6


Langenlois

Hike to Langenlois, with guide; visit the wine museum LOISSIUM and to a local vintner for wine tasting. Back to Krems by train for dinner at the Steigenberger Hotel.

Day 7


Hike across the Danube to visit the baroque abbey of Göttweig. Hike from Göttweig back to Mautern to the very old and traditional bio vintner NIKOLAIHOF. for lunch and winetasting. Return to Krems with a bus.

Day 8


Return to Vienna by train and taxi to airport.

 

NOTE: The tour can also be taken in segments: Vienna and Burgenland or Vienna and Wachau (Danube Valley) as an add-on to another trip you might be taking.
